How can we help?
Setup steps, fixes for common problems, and how to reach us.
Getting started
On your home or office PC
- Run the SL Scanner installer. Leave Launch SL Scanner when Windows starts checked so it's always ready.
- If you plan to connect the iPhone with a cable, also leave Install Apple's iPhone USB driver checked. Wi-Fi doesn't need it.
- When it opens, click Settings and give the station a name, like Front Desk. The iPhone shows this name when it's connected.
- Choose a Save Folder. Leave the default to save on this PC, or type a network path like
\\NAS\Scans\SLScanner. Use the\\network path rather than a drive letter likeZ:\.
On the iPhone
- Open SL Scanner and read the short welcome guide.
- When iPhone asks to find devices on your local network, tap Allow.
- Wait for the green dot and the station name at the top of the screen. That means you're connected.
Scanning
- Cards: tap New Scan, then Scan Card. Fit the card inside the frame, hold the phone flat until the level shows a check, and tap the white button. Check the preview and tap Use Scan.
- Documents: tap New Scan, then Scan Document. After each page tap Add Page. On the last page tap Done — Send, and all pages arrive on the PC as one file.
- Light: tap the lightning bolt on the camera screen. Your choice is remembered. For shiny cards, try it off to avoid glare.
- After sending: sent scans clear from the phone after five minutes. Tap Clear Sent to remove them sooner.
Troubleshooting
The app can't find the PC
- Check SL Scanner is running on the PC. Look for its icon near the clock.
- Make sure the phone is on your home or office Wi-Fi, not cellular.
- Tap the circular-arrow button at the top of the app to search again, or open Settings and tap Auto-Detect PC.
- Still stuck? Type the Wi-Fi address shown in the PC app into the app's Settings.
- Some home and office networks block devices from talking to each other. If nothing works over Wi-Fi, connect with a USB cable.
"Local network" access is blocked
Open the iPhone Settings app, go to Privacy & Security → Local Network, and turn on SL Scanner.
The camera is black or won't open
Open the iPhone Settings app, tap SL Scanner, turn on Camera, then reopen SL Scanner.
A scan says Failed
Tap the scan to send it again once the PC can be reached. Failed scans stay on the phone until they're sent and are never cleared automatically. Closing the app removes them, so retry before you close it.
The PC app shows a red warning about the save folder
SL Scanner can't reach the folder in its Settings. This usually means the NAS is offline or the network dropped. While the warning shows, scans are refused rather than saved somewhere else, and phones show them as Failed so they can be resent.
Check that the PC can open the folder in File Explorer. The warning clears on its own within about 15 seconds of the folder coming back.
Scans arrive but I can't find them
In the PC app, click Open Save Folder, or check the Save Folder in Settings. Cards are saved as JPG. Documents are saved as JPG or PDF, depending on the PC setting, and documents with more than one page are always PDF.
USB connection doesn't work
Windows needs Apple's iPhone driver for USB. Re-run the SL Scanner installer with the USB driver option checked, or install Apple Devices from the Microsoft Store, then restart SL Scanner on the PC.
Scans are blurry or dark
- Hold the phone flat until the level shows a check.
- Turn on the light, or turn it off if you see glare.
- Pinch to zoom rather than moving the phone very close.
- Use Retake on the preview screen if it doesn't look right.
Questions
Does SL Scanner need an internet connection?
No. Scans go from the phone to the PC over your local network or a USB cable. The PC installer only uses the internet if you ask it to install Apple's USB driver.
Do scans go to the cloud?
No. Scans go straight from the phone to your PC. They aren't sent to us or any other server, and there are no accounts. See the Privacy Policy.
Can I save scans to a NAS?
Yes. Set the Save Folder to the NAS's network path, like \\NAS\Scans\SLScanner. Locations without a NAS can keep the default folder on the PC.
How are scan files named?
By date and time, down to the millisecond, so names never clash. Cards start with SLScan_ and documents with SLDocument_, for example SLScan_10-22-2026_02-45-33-193PM.jpg.
I replaced my home or office PC. How do I reconnect the phone?
Install SL Scanner on the new PC, then on the iPhone open Settings and tap Auto-Detect PC.
